4D Controls AI Product Connector – Terms of Use
These terms apply to the 4D Controls AI Product Connector (the "Connector"): the service at ai.4dcontrols.com.au that lets an AI assistant you choose, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok, search the products 4D Controls currently has in stock. The Connector is operated by 4D Controls Pty Ltd, ABN 88 086 792 930, 31 Gardiner Street, Rutherford NSW 2320, Australia ("4D Controls", "we", "us"). By ticking "I accept the terms of use" when you create or first use your account, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the Connector.
1. What the Connector does
1.1 The Connector gives your AI assistant read-only access to information about products we have listed for sale and in stock: part number, brand, title, specifications, category, condition, quantity in our Australian and US warehouses, price in your account currency, product dimensions, product photos and a link to buy the product on our website.
1.2 Stock and prices are refreshed about every 15 minutes. Each result shows the time the information was taken. Stock can sell and prices can change in between.
1.3 The Connector does not take orders, give quotes, calculate freight or show manuals. You buy through our website or by contacting our sales team, and every sale is made under our Terms and Conditions of Sale.
1.4 The Connector is free to use. We may change, limit or stop it at any time, as set out in section 10.
2. Your account
2.1 The Connector is for businesses and people buying parts for business or professional use. You must be at least 18 years old and give us accurate details, including your name, company, email address, country and currency. We may pre-fill your country from your internet connection; please correct it if it is wrong.
2.2 Each account is for one person. Do not share your password, your API key or your AI app's connection with anyone else. You are responsible for everything done through your account, including requests your AI assistant makes on your behalf.
2.3 Tell us straight away at sales@4dcontrols.com.au if you think someone else has used your account. You can change your password, replace your API key and disconnect AI apps from your account page.
2.4 Your currency (AUD, USD, GBP, EUR or CAD) is fixed for your account. Prices are shown in that currency and exclude GST, VAT, sales tax and import duties.
3. Your AI assistant
3.1 Your AI assistant is provided by another company (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI). Its own terms and privacy policy apply to your use of it. We do not control how it searches, what it says, or how it presents our information, and we are not responsible for its answers.
3.2 AI assistants can make mistakes. They can misread specifications, combine our information with their own general knowledge, or describe a part as suitable when it is not. Treat every answer as a starting point and check it before you buy.
3.3 We only receive the requests your AI assistant sends to the Connector (for example the words it searches for and the part numbers it opens). We do not see the rest of your conversation, your files or your other connected apps.
4. Product information, equivalents and suitability
4.1 Product information comes from our own listings. We work to keep it accurate, but specifications, dimensions, photos and descriptions can contain errors or be incomplete. Where our listing and the manufacturer's published data differ, the manufacturer's data prevails.
4.2 When your AI assistant suggests a part as an alternative or equivalent to the part you asked for, that suggestion is made by your AI assistant, not by 4D Controls. It is not a recommendation or a statement by us that the part is compatible or fit for your purpose.
4.3 Before you buy or install any part, confirm that it is suitable for your application, including its ratings, wiring, firmware, dimensions, certifications and safety requirements, against the manufacturer's documentation or with a qualified person. Our sales team can help: sales@4dcontrols.com.au.
4.4 The Connector does not provide engineering, electrical or safety advice. Installation and commissioning of industrial equipment must be carried out by appropriately qualified people.
4.5 4D Controls is not affiliated with, or an authorised distributor of, the manufacturers of the products we sell unless we say so. Brand names, part numbers and trademarks are used to identify products only. Product conditions are explained in our Product Condition Definitions.
5. Prices, orders and our terms of sale
5.1 Prices shown through the Connector are information, not an offer. They exclude GST, VAT, sales tax, import duties and freight. The price, stock and terms shown on our website at checkout, or in a written quote from our sales team, are the ones that apply to your order.
5.2 Every purchase is governed by our Terms and Conditions of Sale, our 2-Year Warranty and our Returns Policy for the store you buy from (4D Controls Pty Ltd for the Australian store, 4D Controls LLC for the US store). Nothing said by your AI assistant or shown through the Connector changes those terms.
5.3 The price shown at checkout is the price you pay. If it differs from what your AI assistant told you, the checkout price applies and you can choose not to buy.
6. Fair use
6.1 You may use the Connector to find and buy parts for your own business. You must not:
- (a) copy, download or collect our catalogue, prices or stock levels in bulk, or use the Connector to build or update a database, price list, marketplace listing or competing service;
- (b) use scripts, bots or automated tools to send requests other than through a normal AI assistant acting on your own questions;
- (c) share, sell or publish your account access or the information you receive, except to colleagues as part of a purchase;
- (d) try to get around usage limits, security measures or account suspensions, or to access data the Connector does not offer;
- (e) interfere with, overload, probe or reverse engineer the Connector; or
- (f) use the Connector for anything unlawful, including in breach of export-control or sanctions laws.
6.2 Each account has usage limits (currently 20 requests a minute and 400 a day by default). We may change the limits for all accounts or for yours. If you need more, contact us.
7. Automatic pauses, suspension and closing your account
7.1 To protect our catalogue, the Connector automatically watches for patterns that look like bulk copying (for example a very large number of different searches or product look-ups in a short time). If it detects one, your account is paused automatically and our team is notified. A person at 4D Controls reviews every automatic pause, and you can ask for a review at any time by emailing sales@4dcontrols.com.au. Genuine customers are reactivated.
7.2 We may suspend or close your account, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, your account is being misused or is at risk, or we need to for legal or security reasons.
7.3 You can stop using the Connector at any time and ask us to close your account by emailing sales@4dcontrols.com.au. Closing your account does not affect any order you have placed.
8. Our content
8.1 The product information, descriptions, photos and data provided through the Connector belong to 4D Controls or are used with permission. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to view and use them to make your own purchasing decisions while your account is active. All other rights are reserved.
9. Privacy and the information we collect
9.1 To run the Connector we collect: your account details (name, company, email address, country, currency and a securely hashed password); the date and time you accepted these terms; and a log of each request your AI assistant makes (which tool, the search words or part numbers, the number of results, the name of the AI app, and the time). When you click a buy link, we record the click and tag the visit so our website can tell it came from the Connector.
9.2 We use this information to provide and secure the Connector, apply usage limits, detect misuse, contact you about your account, and understand which parts customers look for so we can improve our range. Our sales team sees summary reports, including searches that found nothing. We do not sell your personal information.
9.3 Our service providers process this information for us: Amazon Web Services (hosting, Sydney, Australia), Cloudflare (security and network), Twilio SendGrid (account emails), Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (website visits from buy links). Some of them may process information outside Australia, including in the United States.
9.4 Detailed request logs are kept for 12 months and then reduced to monthly totals. Buy-link click records are kept for 24 months. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 7 days. Account details are kept while your account is open and for a reasonable time after it closes.
9.5 Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information, how you can access or correct it, and how to make a complaint. It applies to the Connector together with this section.
10. Availability and changes to the Connector
10.1 We aim to keep the Connector available, but it may be interrupted for maintenance, upgrades or reasons outside our control. We may add, change or remove tools, information or AI apps supported, or stop the Connector, at any time.
11. Liability
11.1 Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded, including consumer guarantees. Our goods sold through our website come with the guarantees and warranty set out in our Terms and Conditions of Sale and 2-Year Warranty.
11.2 Subject to 11.1, the Connector is provided free of charge "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we give no warranty that information provided through the Connector is complete, accurate or current, or that a part is suitable for a particular purpose, and we exclude all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
11.3 Subject to 11.1, to the extent permitted by law we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of production, downtime, lost profit or revenue, or loss of data arising from your use of the Connector or from relying on an AI assistant's answer, and our total liability to you in connection with the Connector is limited to AUD 100 (or the equivalent in your currency). Where our liability for failing to comply with a consumer guarantee can be limited, it is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
11.4 Some places do not allow certain warranties to be excluded or liability to be limited, so some of the exclusions above may not apply to you. You may also have other rights that vary by country or state.
12. Changes to these terms
12.1 We may update these terms. The version number and date are shown at the bottom of this page. If we make a change that materially affects you, we will email you or ask you to accept the new version when you next sign in. If you do not accept it, you can close your account.
13. Governing law
13.1 These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Each party submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales. This does not take away any right you have to bring a claim under the consumer-protection laws of the place where you live.
